An expectation of privacy is a guarantee that surveillance won’t be used against us. Putting a tracking device in your kid’s shoe takes that expectation away. And, it forces them to relearn the lessons of history.
I get that tracking your kids is not a big deal for most people. But, they’re wrong. And, if you’ve ever wondered what it looks like when societies backslide, this is it.
There is a good reason for normalizing privacy and other human rights. It would be wise to preserve those rights rather than hope that they will be reinvented by a future generation.
I would like to buy a book for my teen daughter about resilience and wellbeing, and having to research it based on zero knowledge of the good books there may be.
She is fairly familiar with the ideas of the big tech algos. This year I won’t be buying her anything electronic. It’s all comfort and culture things (posters, memorabilia) according to her wish list which is nice.
Tough ask for her to move away from Windows to Linux or from her Android flavour phone though.
I have heard good things about Man’s Search For Meaning, when it comes to resilience, though it sounds like a heavy book. Where do you get your books, if you get them online? Or do you visit a local bookstore?
I’m always curious where people shop for books (places that aren’t Amazon).
I’m not a native book buyer. I just don’t look at fiction and for non-fiction it tends to be online available PDFs for technical interests. If I had an art/book question on who wants to be a millionaire, beyond the basics I’m asking.
Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll look into that.
