Platform Availability: Download Thunderbird for Android from the following places. Availability on F-Droid will be coming soon.
- Google Play Store
- GitHub Releases (apk)
- The Thunderbird website (on an Android device)
As a long-term K9 user and a participant in the beta testing for this, it’s great to see it leave that stage.
I’ve found there do be a real dearth of good apps for managing multiple email inboxes on (sort of) Android and so I had ended up on K9, but it was a little bit janky. Allowing for the .apk to be downloaded from the website (well, a link to Github) is also great.
I don’t know what the proper way to upgrade using Obtainium is, so I ended up deleting K-9 Mail and restoring from my desktop Thunderbird app using the QR code.
That’s quite cool. It’s never been so easy to setup mail on my phone. Back when I was using my own Exchange server, it was real fun entering all of the details in on my phone keyboard.
I haven’t noticed much difference between the two yet…
