If you just want a stem, the Privacy Pledge has five principles:

  1. The internet should be built to serve people
  2. Organizations should only collect data that’s necessary for them to prevent abuse and deliver their services
  3. People’s data should be securely encrypted
  4. Online organizations should be transparent about their identity and software
  5. Web services should be interoperable.
