Just a thought… I think it’s been a demo for several years now and I don’t think I’ve had any useful results from it.
In my experience, it’s very rare that I can see why an AI would have linked the results to the suggested emotion. And when I think I can spot the connection, it’s usually a misfire (e.g., a sales listing for small magnets being tagged “wow!” because words like strong or powerful appear in the snippet).
The emotional search isn’t offered in the hamburger menu or in the default smartphone view and only appears if I turn my phone to landscape or view the home page on a PC. Dunno if Mojeek has plans for this, but, if not, it feels like a bit of a distraction?
Me too. When searching, I usually seek objective content, not emotionally fueled ones. Though as it seems that Mojeek isn’t expending significant time and resources in maintaining that feature, I think it’s ok to leave it there, it might be useful in the future.
i just discovered this (emotions) after reading through an old Mojeek ama thread on reddit and i really like the idea
a quick test produced interesting results that are at least somewhat in the context of the chosen ‘emotion’
i think this is an excellent way to add a useful bias to the results rather than having an algorithm attempt to guess what the user wants
i know there’s been further discussion of searching by intention, but this emoticon thing is so simple and potentially useful - it’s interesting to view different results/biases with a mouse click rather than having to re-craft the search terms
far as accuracy, i’m sure this will improve as the index is built out, etc.
Another aspect of this is that a lot of the older pieces (and actually some newer ones) which place Mojeek in a 10 Alternative Search Engines You Can Use Instead of Google list or similar mention this specifically.
Obviously the preference would be independence (in a crowded field of metasearch or Big Tech options) but if that’s what they’ve pointed people to us with, it would probably do us a bit of a disservice to cut out that functionality.
