Sometimes I copy search results to my notes to visit later by highlighting and copying the search results.
Unfortunately the search results that I copy from Mojeek don’t contain working links. This is not only because the slash characters are replaced with something else but also because ellipses replace a part of the link if the links are long.
By contrast if I copy search reults from DDG I always get working links that I can visit later. Even when longer links are visually truncated on the DDG search page, the full link gets copied. I think it would make a nice UI/UX improvement if Mojeek also worked liked this.
Welcome @Cooper to the Mojeek community. I think perhaps you must be copying the displayed text on the search results page rather than the hyperlink itself. If you hover over the title or URL displayed and then select “Copy Hyperlink” you will get what you want.
Thanks. Yes, you are right that I am copying the displayed text on the search results page. This is my point. One reason I might copy search results to my notes is that I don’t have time to view them all immediately but I want to follow up on them later. However, if I don’t have much time, I also don’t want to hover over the title/URL for each link and copy them all individually and manually inspect and find the correct place to paste them next to the corresponding search result. This is unnecessarily time consuming.
As I already mentioned, by contrast I can easily copy DDG search results and they will contain the links every time. It looks like DDG designed it with this use case in mind, because even visually truncated links will still copy correctly without needing to hover over the URL and select “Copy Hyperlink”. I would find Mojeek more convenient to use if I can copy search results with the links the same way.
Yes, this seems to be related and describes a similar issue, but I’m not using the summary feature, just a normal search.
I apologize for not giving more details. It seems that we have similar issues. And, I wanted to make the connection to my existing request.
In general, I agree that copying from Mojeek search results (without losing information like full links) would be a useful feature.
In my post, I gave a full Markdown example and suggested a different way of copying. Whereas, it sounds like you prefer to copy directly from the search results.
I’m not a web developer. But, it looks like the basic problem is style. Where DuckDuckGo probably puts all that information in their page and then styles it; on Mojeek pages, that basic information (e.g., full links) is missing.
While I don’t see a way to fix the plain text version using the current search preferences, I did notice the links (URLs and titles) work when copied to an HTML-compatible text editor like LibreOffice Writer.
As a minor sidenote, there is small graphical bug in the settings page where &tlen=128 shows as 127 in the cookieless URL preview:
