Just discovered Mojeek, looking for a search engine that isn’t based in the settler colonial dystopian hellscape of California (sorry to any Californians, I’m sure you’re quite lovely and are very sorry for genociding the Ohlone people )
Anyhoo! My preferred mobile browser is Vivaldi (for similar reasons). But it looks like Vivaldi only offers a predetermined list of browser choices, which don’t include Mojeek.
Anyone here got any thoughts or ideas? Before I go and Make A Scene over at Vivaldi…
Some people on the Vivaldi forum were saying you can customize the search engine on the desktop version of the browser. Then, you can synchronize that option to mobile with a Vivaldi account.
Otherwise, there are instructions for adding a speed dial to your start page. You might put the Mojeek home page there.
If you want to vote for a customizable search engine feature request, or browse some of the comments, then you can vote/browse below. To vote, just upvote the first post in the thread.
Aaah, those are awesome suggestions! Thank you so much
I’ve also discovered the SnowHaze browser from reading the Mojeek blog, and I’m liking that even more. But I’ll do all the above on Vivaldi so I’ve got some decent backup browsers too, and add a bit more weight to this being easier for Vivaldi users in future.
I didn’t expect one new search engine to open so many doors to weaning myself off Big (US) Tech, and I feel excited
If you’re new to Mojeek, you might try /news for the latest news articles.
And, if you see something that is not working, you can give feedback by clicking on the ‘Submit feedback’ button at the bottom (on mobile, or bottom-right on desktop).
Vivaldi’s main income comes from search partnerhips. As it does for Mozilla. And a large % of Apple’s income, and Samsung …
Apple are more exclusionary than Vivaldi having a closed list on desktop and mobile. In their case it’s worth >$20 billion (from Google) but that will change when the antitrust remedies kick in.
This can definitely help. As there are already >350 upvotes on that post, comments are probably needed. Why do Vivaldi want to be like Apple and alienate part of their user base? Are Google forcing Apple’s hand? …
We love feedback at Mojeek. It’s one the things that helps us most and @mike has been awesome at providing that. The submit feedback button is on all search results pages. We would particularly appreciate feedback on web search most of all.
